Search for the Families of Emma Chancellor and John Albert Russell
This page contains information recieved from a granddaughter of Emma and Albert Russell which I greatly appreciate, and information I have discovered while trying to add to what we already know. Emma was a big mystery to me until you contacted me, Naomi. Thank you for providing me with information we can pass on to the next generations.
All that I knew of our families history was interrupted by the loss of the 1890 US Census. According to my ggrandfather, Edmond Franklin Chancellor, his parents John Cooper Chancellor and Sarah Jane Trickett both died around 1890 and the children went their own ways. As they passed thru Oklahoma, Frank stayed in Indian Territory and was married in Wewoka, Seminole County to Rosa Minick in 1903.

1900 Census of Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas
In 1900 Emma and John were in Wilson Township, Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas and had two children. The census does say that they had 3 children born to them and 2 were living. The living children were James Walter (Jimmie on census) and John Albert (Albert on census). Emma listed her parents place of birth as Missouri, but that is incorrect. They were both born in Virginia, though they moved to Scotland County, Missouri before 1860.
1910 Census of Beggs, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma
By 1910 Emma and John were living in Beggs, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma where they would remain for many years. The enumerator mistakenly listed Emma as Emily. They had two more children listed with them, Forest and Carrie. The census says that Emma had 7 children born to her and 4 were living. They had lost 2 more children during the ten years since the last census.
1920 Census of Beggs, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma
By the 1920 Census of Beggs, Emma and John had added their last child, Curtis Woodrow. The enumerator did not get good information for this census. The middle initials for most of the family are wrong, Johns parents are now listed as of Indiana instead of Mississippi as in previous census records, and Emmas parents from Tennessee
1930 Census of Yeager, Hughes County, Oklahoma
In 1930 Emma and John were living in Yeager, Hughes County, Oklahoma. Emmas brother, Edmond Franklin Chancellor had already been living there since at least 1910. By this time, only Curtis was still living at home.
